The Ohio State Fair returns on July 24th, 2024, and runs through August 4, 2024. Experience the rich tradition over 12 days of food, exhibits, rides, and family fun!
Since its inception in 1850, the Ohio State Fair has evolved into one of the most anticipated events in the Midwest. The fair is centered around agriculture, education, and entertainment, making it a fun time for all ages.
The Ohio State Fair originally emphasized agricultural education and competition. Farmers across the state would convene to exhibit their livestock, share cultivation methods, and compete for coveted awards. Today, this tradition lives on in the fair’s numerous livestock competitions and educational programs that spotlight Ohio’s agricultural advancements.
However, the Ohio State Fair is not just about agriculture. Over time, it has evolved to include many other attractions. The midway teems with exhilarating rides, games of skill, and food stands serving everything from classic corn dogs to Ohio’s famous Buckeye candy. Each year, the fair’s expansive concert series draws top-tier talent nationwide. With a lineup that spans multiple genres, there’s a performance for every musical taste.
As a child, I used to showcase my 4H projects, but like most children my age, I enjoyed the rides the most!
The sky ride, the Lumberjack show, The giant Butter Cow sculpture and ice cream, Smokey, the Bear (who calls you out by name), and the giant slide are what I remember most as a kid.
Once I had my kids, I also got to experience the fair with them!
The Ohio State Fair has recently made concerted efforts toward sustainability and inclusivity. The fairgrounds have implemented green initiatives such as waste reduction programs and renewable energy usage, while the organizers have endeavored to ensure the fair’s accessibility and enjoyment for all Ohioans.
